Sony to inform consumers with new TVC

Craig McLachlan is the face of the latest major TV campaign for Sony Australia, informing consumers that a HDTV alone isn’t enough. The campaign has been designed to increase awareness of Blu-ray as the ultimate high definition source for home entertainment.

McLachlan’s tagline is “what a waste” when he finds out he is watching standard definition content without a Blu-ray player and encourages consumers to make the most out of their high definition TV with accompanying equipment like a Blu-ray player.

“HD represents 99.9% of all value sales in the LCD TV category, so consumers are certainly embracing high definition when it comes to choosing their flat panel TV,” Sony Australia head of strategy and brand development, Toby Barbour said.

“However, many consumers are watching standard definition movies through their DVD player on their HDTV, which doesn’t deliver the best image and sound quality possible. We want to ensure that consumers are making the most out of the amazing image and sound quality high definition delivers, by ensuring that their HDTV set is matched with the best quality source – a Blu-ray player,” he added.

Campaign supports new product launch
The TVC was first aired on Channel Ten on Sunday and the campaign runs in conjunction with the release of two new Sony Blu-ray players to the Australian market. According to Sony the new players incorporate new interactive features that take the movie experience beyond what cinemas can offer.
